Attestation of a document other than the power of attorney

***Remember, if
you are a US citizen and do not have a VALID Pakistani Passport or ID Card, all documents that have to be attested have to be
first notarized by the US Department of State (See instructions below for US
Citizens). The documents such as birth
and death certificates, Marriage, divorce certificates which are issued from
Pakistan must have been first attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of
Pakistan. Similarly all education certificates and degrees issued from
Pakistan will only be attested by the Embassy and Pakistani consulates if
they are attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan.***
Attestation of documents issued by any US authority can
only be processed once authenticated / attested by the
US Department of State.
Attestation of a document other than the power of attorney
(For US/Pakistani Citizens who have a valid Pakistani Passport / ID Card):
To get a document notarized,
you should send/bring

A notarized copy
of the Power of Attorney with the original

Your
original National Identity Card (NICOP) plus copy, or original plus photocopy of Pakistani
passport

Driver's License or State ID

US Passport or Green card

Cashier's

Remember, if you are a US
national (Without a Valid Pakistani Passport / ID Card), all documents have to be first authenticated by the US
Department of State (See Instructions Below).
Attestation of Educational Documents
It may please be noted that
Higher Education Commission in Islamabad is responsible for the
attestation of educational degrees/transcripts by the chartered
universities of Pakistan. The details of attestation/equivalence
procedure are available at HEC website

Attestation of a Power of Attorney
To get a Power of Attorney
notarized, you should send a notarized copy with the original,
your National Identity Card or Pakistani passport and money
order. Please also send one extra copy of the Power of attorney
for our record

Instructions for US Citizens
Please check the
correct fees and timings with the Secretary of State and
Department of State Authentication's Office
STEP 1
Take a notarized copy
of your document to be attested with Jessie White, Secretary of
State's Office. The price is $2.00 per document (paid in cash or
check). Their office is located between Madison and Washington.
Estimated time for document attestation is between 30-45
minutes, 8AM-3:30PM daily.

STEP 2
Then mail to
Department of State Authentication's Office. Estimated turn
around time is 5 business days. The price is $8.00 per document
(paid in money order or check) and payable to the United States
Department of State.

STEP 3
Once you have your
document back from the United States Department of State,
We are open Mon-Friday
9:30AM-12:30PM, and pick up of the document will be ready
between 2-3 PM the same business day.
You would need to
bring:

The document in
original and photocopy.

A photo-copy of
the person bringing in the letter, drivers license or state
ID
-
A letter from the
company, on the company letterhead stating what the letter
is for. (the letter should be signed and dated)

$16.00 money order
or cashier check payable to the Consulate General of
Pakistan.
**If you choose not to
come in person to the Consulate, you can send everything listed
above by mail, and provide us a return envelope (self-addressed
and pre-paid) Priority or Express Mail thru the United States
Postal Service. We will return your document when it is
completed.
